Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Ziek aapje, met gesloten ogen - Sick monkey with eyes closed by Joseph Mendes da Costa was auctioned at Christies in Amsterdam in June 2003. The price achieved of EUR 11,950.00 was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as EUR 10,000.00 – 15,000.00. Admittedly, works by Joseph Mendes da Costa have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Woman with child in December 2001 with an auction result of EUR 52,875.00.

Der dabei erzielte Preis von EUR 11.950,00 lag im Rahmen der Erwartungen – die Schätzpreisspanne war von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit EUR 10.000,00 – 15.000,00 angegeben worden. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Joseph Mendes da Costa auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Woman with child im Dezember 2001 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von EUR 52.875,00.
