Upper estimate price exceeded by more than 100%
This artwork by Joseph Christian Leyendecker achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in New York in November 2017. In the American Art auction, the work Newspapers Over Books sold for USD 212,500.00 (€ 178,601.45) - well above the upper estimate of USD 100,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Joseph Christian Leyendecker - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Carousel Ride, which sold at auction in December 2020 for USD 516,100.00 (€ 421,995.09).
