This artwork by Jonathan Richardson achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in July 2011. In the Old Master & Early British Drawings & Watercolours auction, the work Portrait of Jonathan Richardson, Junior (1694-1771), the artist's son sold for GBP 27,500.00 (€ 31,560.36) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 15,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Jonathan Richardson; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Group Portrait of The Artist And His Son, Jonathan, With John Milton, Three-Quarter-Length, On A Balcony sold at auction in June 2005 with the realized price of GBP 26,400.00 (€ 39,126.47).
