Auction result well in line with expectations

In December 2000 Christies in London held the auction British Pictures 1500-1850, which included the work Portrait of a lady of the Barrington family, half-length, in a red dress, feigned oval by Jonathan Richardson. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 3,000.00 – 5,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 3,055.00 (€ 4,866.59) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Admittedly, works by Jonathan Richardson have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Group Portrait of The Artist And His Son, Jonathan, With John Milton, Three-Quarter-Length, On A Balcony in June 2005 with an auction result of GBP 26,400.00 (€ 39,126.47).
