This artwork by John Thomas Barber Beaumont achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in November 2001. In the Important Portrait Miniatures including works from the auction, the work A gentleman called H. Pottinger, Esq., facing right in black coat and waistcoat, knotted white cravat with pleated jabot, powdered hair and sideburns; green background sold for GBP 3,290.00 (€ 5,235.43) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 1,500.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by John Thomas Barber Beaumont; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Unknown sold at auction in June 2010 with the realized price of GBP 5,625.00 (€ 6,840.52).
