Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Portrait of Rebecca Branthwayt (d.1740), née Newton, seated three-quarter-length, in a white satin dress and blue wrap, in a draped interior by John Theodore Heins was auctioned at Christies in London in March 2000. The price achieved of GBP 1,955.00 (€ 3,251.25) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 1,500.00 – 2,500.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by John Theodore Heins - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Portrait of Lucy, Lady Gage, daughter of William Knight, half-length, in an oyster satin dress and blue wrap, with a feathered headdress, feigned oval, which sold at auction in November 2003 for GBP 6,214.00 (€ 8,920.29).
