Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Portrait of John Davy, half-length, in a brown coat and embroidered waistcoat by John Theodore Heins was auctioned at Christies in London in August 2014, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 1,000.00 – 1,500.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 937.50 (€ 1,182.39). Admittedly, works by John Theodore Heins have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Portrait of Lucy, Lady Gage, daughter of William Knight, half-length, in an oyster satin dress and blue wrap, with a feathered headdress, feigned oval in November 2003 with an auction result of GBP 6,214.00 (€ 8,920.29).
