Auction result well in line with expectations
In September 2000 Christies in London held the auction BRITISH AND VICTORIAN PICTURES, which included the work Portrait of Dorothy Branthwayt (d.1769), half-length, in a turquoise dress and red wrap, feigned oval by John Theodore Heins. The price achieved of GBP 1,762.50 (€ 2,949.20) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 1,500.00 – 2,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by John Theodore Heins - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Portrait of Lucy, Lady Gage, daughter of William Knight, half-length, in an oyster satin dress and blue wrap, with a feathered headdress, feigned oval, which sold at auction in November 2003 for GBP 6,214.00 (€ 8,920.29).
