Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Portrait Study of Master John Thornton, bust-length, in a blue jacket by John Opie was auctioned at Christies in New York in October 2001, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 12,000.00 – 18,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 11,162.50 (€ 12,412.43).
