Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Portrait of George Cruikshank, bust-length by John Opie was auctioned at Christies in London in December 2012, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 700.00 – 1,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 375.00 (€ 462.48). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by John Opie achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait Of Sir James Earle, Half-Length, Seated, In A Brown Coat And Striped Waistcoat; And Portrait Of Mary, Lady Earle, Half-Length, Seated At A Piano, In A White Dress And A Grey Coat in June 2001 with an auction result of GBP 10,340.00 (€ 17,176.80).
Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Portrait Of Sir James Earle, Half-Length, Seated, In A Brown Coat And Striped Waistcoat; And Portrait Of Mary, Lady Earle, Half-Length, Seated At A Piano, In A White Dress And A Grey Coat im Juni 2001 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 10.340,00 (€ 17.176,80).
