This artwork by John Cage achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in New York in May 2021. In the The Artist’s Eye: The Collection of Tom Levine auction, the work Where R = Ryoanji 12R/2 sold for USD 37,800.00 (€ 30,998.85) - well above the upper estimate of USD 20,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by John Cage - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work The First Meeting of the Satie Society, which sold at auction in March 2011 for USD 116,500.00 (€ 82,140.59).

Dieses Kunstwerk von John Cage erzielte im Mai 2021 bei Sothebys in New York einen unerwartet hohen Preis. In der Auktion The Artist’s Eye: The Collection of Tom Levine wurde die Arbeit Where R = Ryoanji 12R/2 für USD 37.800,00 (€ 30.998,85) versteigert – und damit weit über dem oberen Schätzpreis von USD 20.000,00. Für andere Arbeiten von John Cage mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit The First Meeting of the Satie Society beobachtet, die im März 2011 für USD 116.500,00 (€ 82.140,59) versteigert wurde.
