Die Arbeit Raising the Flag, Mt. Suribachi, Iwo Jima, February 23, 1945 von Joe Rosenthal kam im Dezember 2009 bei Christies in New York zur Auktion. Sie erzielte dabei einen Preis von USD 6.250,00 (€ 4.360,87) und übertraf damit das obere Ende der Schätzpreisspanne um 25%. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Joe Rosenthal auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Flag Raising On Mt. Suribachi, Iwo Jima im Oktober 2007 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 32.200,00 (€ 22.256,01).
