Upper estimate price exceeded by 67 %.
In April 2016 Christies in New York held the auction Photographs, which included the work Eight Portraits, 1920S-1930S by Jan van der Zee. The »bidding war« ended at USD 25,000.00 (€ 21,851.24), 67% above the upper estimate. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Jan van der Zee; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Untitled (West 127th Street, Harlem), 1932 sold at auction in December 2011 with the realized price of USD 52,500.00 (€ 40,468.67).
