The »bidding war« ended at GBP 25,000.00 (€ 28,566.86), 39% above the upper estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Jacques-Louis David achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait of Ramel De Nogaret in April 2008 with an auction result of USD 7,209,000.00 (€ 4,630,652.62).
