Auction result well in line with expectations
In July 2021 Sothebys in London held the auction A Fine Line: Master Works on Paper from Five Centuries, which included the work Dancing Maenad and youth sacrificing to Aesculapius by Jacques-Louis David. The price achieved of GBP 6,048.00 (€ 7,092.53) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 5,000.00 – 7,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Jacques-Louis David achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait of Ramel De Nogaret in April 2008 with an auction result of USD 7,209,000.00 (€ 4,630,652.62).
