JACOB LAWRENCE (1917-2000) New York in Transit II screenprint in colors, on Rising Rag paper, 1998, signed and dated in pencil, numbered 14/50 (there were also five artist's proofs), published by the Jacob Lawrence Catalogue Raisonné Project, Seattle, with margins, framed Image: 12 x 36 in. (305 x 914 mm.) Sheet: 20 x 39 7 ⁄ 8 in. (508 x 1013 mm.)
Upper estimate price exceeded by more than 100%
This artwork by Jacob Lawrence achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in July this year. In the Contemporary Edition auction, the work New York in Transit II sold for USD 10,080.00 (€ 9,147.01) - well above the upper estimate of USD 5,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Jacob Lawrence achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work The Businessmen in November 2018 with an auction result of USD 6,169,800.00 (€ 5,448,909.30).
Oberer Schätzpreis um mehr als 100% übertroffen
Dieses Kunstwerk von Jacob Lawrence erzielte im Juli diesen Jahres bei Christies einen unerwartet hohen Preis. In der Auktion Contemporary Edition wurde die Arbeit New York in Transit II für USD 10.080,00 (€ 9.147,01) versteigert – und damit weit über dem oberen Schätzpreis von USD 5.000,00. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Jacob Lawrence erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit The Businessmen im November 2018 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 6.169.800,00 (€ 5.448.909,30).
