Property from the collection of Amina Rachid, Cairo (1938-2021) acquired directly from the artist, thence by descent to the present owner | The present work is from Inji Efflatoun's most creatively fertile and intellectually noteworthy period, which spans the 1950s and early 60's, a period where she was at the height of her activism and where her work exhibits an acute sense of social awareness, as demonstrated in this empathetic depiction of an Egyptian Fellaha.

Upper estimate price exceeded by more than 100%
This artwork by Inji Efflatoun achieved an unexpectedly high price at Bonhams in London in November last year. In the Modern and Contemporary Middle Eastern Art including Baghdadiyat Part IIIThe Finale auction, the work Portrait of a Fellaha sold for GBP 43,140.00 (€ 49,989.41) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 18,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Inji Efflatoun; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Egyptian'Ahlam Almuetaqala (Dreams Of The Detainee) sold at auction in April 2018 with the realized price of GBP 68,750.00 (€ 78,298.93).
Oberer Schätzpreis um mehr als 100% übertroffen
Dieses Kunstwerk von Inji Efflatoun erzielte im November letzten Jahres bei Bonhams in London einen unerwartet hohen Preis. In der Auktion Modern and Contemporary Middle Eastern Art including Baghdadiyat Part IIIThe Finale wurde die Arbeit Portrait of a Fellaha für GBP 43.140,00 (€ 49.989,41) versteigert – und damit weit über dem oberen Schätzpreis von GBP 18.000,00.
