Sold at the lower estimate price
In October 2013 Christies in London held the auction Travel, Science & Natural History, which included the work Ten Glass Plate Negatives Including American And Asian Subjects ('Girl'S Tea Party'; 'Man Fishing'; 'Man In Woods'; 'Gesia Sic Girls'; 'Water Wheel House', And Others) by Herbert George Ponting. The result of GBP 1,000.00 (€ 1,181.99) was exactly at the lower end of the estimate range of GBP 1,000.00 – 2,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Herbert George Ponting achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work British Antarctic Expedition, 1910-13: Ponting's three master albums of contact prints in September 2010 with an auction result of GBP 169,250.00 (€ 195,755.59).
