Auction result well in line with expectations
The work On The Penguinery, Cape Royds (26 November 1911) by Herbert George Ponting was sold in the Travel, Science & Natural History auction at Christies in London in April 2014. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 800.00 – 1,200.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 875.00 (€ 1,065.08) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Herbert George Ponting achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work British Antarctic Expedition, 1910-13: Ponting's three master albums of contact prints in September 2010 with an auction result of GBP 169,250.00 (€ 195,755.59).
