Sold at the upper estimate price
The work Captain Scott Writing Up His Journal, Scott'S Last Expedition (11 October 1911) by Herbert George Ponting was sold in the Travel, Science & Natural History auction at Christies in London in April 2014. The auction ended at the price of GBP 3,000.00 (€ 3,651.69), which exactly corresponded to the upper end of the estimated price range of GBP 2,000.00 – 3,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Herbert George Ponting achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work British Antarctic Expedition, 1910-13: Ponting's three master albums of contact prints in September 2010 with an auction result of GBP 169,250.00 (€ 195,755.59).
