Auction result well in line with expectations
In December 2012 Christies in New York held the auction The National Geographic Collection: The Art of Exploration, which included the work Penguins, Antarctica, c. 1911 by Herbert George Ponting. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 5,000.00 – 7,000.00, the actual price achieved of USD 5,250.00 (€ 3,981.50) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Herbert George Ponting achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work British Antarctic Expedition, 1910-13: Ponting's three master albums of contact prints in September 2010 with an auction result of GBP 169,250.00 (€ 195,755.59).
