Upper estimated price slightly exceeded
The work Adélie Penguin and Chicks, Antarctica, c. 1911 by Herbert George Ponting was auctioned at Christies in New York in December 2012. Here, the upper estimate of USD 6,000.00 was slightly exceeded - the artwork found a new owner for USD 6,875.00 (€ 5,213.86). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Herbert George Ponting achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work British Antarctic Expedition, 1910-13: Ponting's three master albums of contact prints in September 2010 with an auction result of GBP 169,250.00 (€ 195,755.59).
