Oh where, Oh where can Gyp and Barney be!
signed and dated 'HELEN BRADLEY/1972' and with a fly (lower right), signed again, inscribed and dated again 'Oh where, Oh where can Gyp and Barney be!/We had all been for a lovely walk that/afternoon with the dogs romping along and/enjoying themselves, but when we got/near home they were not with us. We had/our tea and they still did not come, so/aunt Mary lit the storm lantern and/took George and me with her to see if we/could find them. She asked some boys/playing in Dove St. if they had seen/two little black dogs, "No Missus/we haven't" they said, so sadly we had/to return home without them and the/year was 1906/Helen Layfield Bradley/1972' (on a label attached to the backboard)

In June 2007 Christies in London held the auction 20th Century British Art, which included the work Oh where, Oh where can Gyp and Barney be! by Helen Layfield Bradley. The auction ended at the price of GBP 12,000.00 (€ 17,807.40), which exactly corresponded to the upper end of the estimated price range of GBP 8,000.00 – 12,000.00. Admittedly, works by Helen Layfield Bradley have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Our First Morning in Blackpool in November 2007 with an auction result of GBP 94,100.00 (€ 131,764.35).
Zuschlag beim oberen Schätzpreis
Im Juni 2007 führte Christies in London die Auktion 20th Century British Art durch, in der auch die Arbeit Oh where, Oh where can Gyp and Barney be! von Helen Layfield Bradley zur Versteigerung kam. Das dabei erzielte Ergebnis von GBP 12.000,00 (€ 17.807,40) entsprach exakt dem oberen Ende der Schätzpreisspanne von GBP 8.000,00 – 12.000,00. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Helen Layfield Bradley auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Our First Morning in Blackpool im November 2007 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 94.100,00 (€ 131.764,35).
