This artwork by Giovanni Paolo Panini achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in New York in October 2016. In the Old Masters auction, the work A capriccio of classical ruins with the Pyramid of Cestius beyond sold for USD 35,000.00 (€ 31,928.48) - well above the upper estimate of USD 20,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Giovanni Paolo Panini achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Rome, The Pantheon, A View Of The Interior Towards The Piazza Della Rotonda in January 2015 with an auction result of USD 5,317,000.00 (€ 4,709,477.41).
