The »bidding war« ended at GBP 120,500.00 (€ 163,739.06), 21% above the upper estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Giovanni Battista Lusieri - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Panoramic view of Rome from Piazza San Pietro in Montorio on the Janiculum: From Saint Peter's to the Chiesa Nuova with San Giovanni dei Fiorentini and Castel Sant' Angelo, which sold at auction in July 2013 for GBP 481,875.00 (€ 550,626.18).
