Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work A panoramic view of Rome from the Aventine Hill towards the South by Giovanni Battista Lusieri was auctioned at Christies in London in July last year, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 200,000.00 – 300,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 170,000.00 (€ 203,010.19). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Giovanni Battista Lusieri - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Panoramic view of Rome from Piazza San Pietro in Montorio on the Janiculum: From Saint Peter's to the Chiesa Nuova with San Giovanni dei Fiorentini and Castel Sant' Angelo, which sold at auction in July 2013 for GBP 481,875.00 (€ 550,626.18).
