This artwork by Giovanni Battista Lusieri achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in July last year. In the Old Master and British Works on Paper: Drawings, Watercolours and Prints 1500-1900 auction, the work A view of the ruins of the Baths of Caracalla sold for GBP 176,400.00 (€ 210,652.93) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 100,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Giovanni Battista Lusieri - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Panoramic view of Rome from Piazza San Pietro in Montorio on the Janiculum: From Saint Peter's to the Chiesa Nuova with San Giovanni dei Fiorentini and Castel Sant' Angelo, which sold at auction in July 2013 for GBP 481,875.00 (€ 550,626.18).
