Georges Mathieu (1921-2012) Sans titre signé et daté ‘Mathieu 59’ (en bas à droite) aquarelle huile et encre de Chine sur papier 70 x 50.5 cm. Réalisé en 1959. signed and dated ‘Mathieu 59’ (lower right) watercolour, oil and India ink on paper 27 1 ⁄ 2 x 19 7 ⁄ 8 in. Executed in 1959.

The work Sans titre by Georges Mathieu was sold in the Contemporary Art – online sale including ‘’A Lifetime Collection’’ auction at Christies in Paris in December this year. The »bidding war« ended at EUR 17,640.00 47% above the upper estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Georges Mathieu achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Tuz Gölü in October 2021 with an auction result of HKD 18,325,000.00 (€ 2,038,402.44).
Oberer Schätzpreis um 47 % übertroffen
Die Arbeit Sans titre von Georges Mathieu wurde im Dezember diesen Jahres in der Auktion Contemporary Art – online sale including ‘’A Lifetime Collection’’ bei Christies in Paris versteigert. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von EUR 17.640,00 und damit 47% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Georges Mathieu erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Tuz Gölü im Oktober 2021 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von HKD 18.325.000,00 (€ 2.038.402,44).
