Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Sombre croyance by Georges Mathieu was auctioned at Christies in Paris in December this year, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of EUR 200,000.00 – 300,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for EUR 189,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Georges Mathieu achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Tuz Gölü in October 2021 with an auction result of HKD 18,325,000.00 (€ 2,038,402.44).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit Sombre croyance von Georges Mathieu im Dezember diesen Jahres bei Christies in Paris versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von EUR 200.000,00 – 300.000,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für EUR 189.000,00 den Besitzer. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Georges Mathieu erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Tuz Gölü im Oktober 2021 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von HKD 18.325.000,00 (€ 2.038.402,44).
