Georges Mathieu (1921-2012) Pleurs sauvages signé 'Mathieu' (en bas à droite); titré ''Pleurs sauvages'' (au dos) acrylique et aquarelle sur papier 57 x 76.4 cm. Realisé vers 1994. signed 'Mathieu' (lower right); titled ''Pleurs sauvages'' (on the reverse) acrylic and watercolour on paper 22 1 ⁄ 2 x 30 1 ⁄ 8 in. Executed circa 1994.

This artwork by Georges Mathieu achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in Paris in December this year. In the Contemporary Art – online sale including ‘’A Lifetime Collection’’ auction, the work Pleurs sauvages sold for EUR 21,420.00 - well above the upper estimate of EUR 12,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Georges Mathieu achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Tuz Gölü in October 2021 with an auction result of HKD 18,325,000.00 (€ 2,038,402.44).
Oberer Schätzpreis um 79 % übertroffen
Dieses Kunstwerk von Georges Mathieu erzielte im Dezember diesen Jahres bei Christies in Paris einen unerwartet hohen Preis. In der Auktion Contemporary Art – online sale including ‘’A Lifetime Collection’’ wurde die Arbeit Pleurs sauvages für EUR 21.420,00 versteigert – und damit weit über dem oberen Schätzpreis von EUR 12.000,00. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Georges Mathieu erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Tuz Gölü im Oktober 2021 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von HKD 18.325.000,00 (€ 2.038.402,44).
