FRANZ MARC (1880 - 1916) Holzschnitte the complete set of 22 woodcuts, including four printed in colours, 1911/12 - 1914, on laid paper, watermark Initials GB 1980, each numbered in pencil 12/30, printed from the original woodblocks by Gerhard Köhler, Baden-Baden, published by Otto Stangl, Munich, 1984, with the blindstamp Blocks 270 x 293 mm. (and smaller) Sheets 400 x 525 mm. (and similar)
Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Holzschnitte by Franz Marc was auctioned at Christies in London in September last year, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 7,000.00 – 10,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 5,040.00 (€ 5,736.01). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Franz Marc achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work The Foxes (Die Füchse) in March last year with an auction result of GBP 42,654,500.00 (€ 50,571,710.45).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit Holzschnitte von Franz Marc im September letzten Jahres bei Christies in London versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von GBP 7.000,00 – 10.000,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für GBP 5.040,00 (€ 5.736,01) den Besitzer. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Franz Marc erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit The Foxes (Die Füchse) im März letzten Jahres mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 42.654.500,00 (€ 50.571.710,45).
