Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Australian old Sydney: The Ship And Mermaid by Elaine Haxton was auctioned at Sothebys in Melbourne in August 2008, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of AUD 20,000.00 – 30,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for AUD 18,000.00 (€ 10,507.46). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Elaine Haxton - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Double Bay, which sold at auction in May 2001 for AUD 39,950.00 (€ 23,946.37).
