Auction result misses estimated price range
This work of art by Edward Matthew Ward could be acquired at Christies in New York in January 2006 for an unexpectedly low price. In the The House Sale auction, the work The first meeting between John Wilkes and Dr. Johnson, a sketch changed hands for USD 1,200.00 (€ 987.00) - missing the lower end of the estimate range of USD 2,000.00 – 4,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Edward Matthew Ward achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work The Last Parting Of Marie Antoinette And Her Son in December 2014 with an auction result of GBP 92,500.00 (€ 119,078.18).
