Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Portrait of a gentleman, bust-length, in a black doublet and cartwheel ruff by Doménikos Theotokópoulos was auctioned at Christies in New York in October 2020, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 1,000,000.00 – 1,500,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 990,000.00 (€ 850,004.29). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Doménikos Theotokópoulos achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Saint Dominic In Prayer in July 2013 with an auction result of GBP 9,154,500.00 (€ 10,460,611.84).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit Portrait of a gentleman, bust-length, in a black doublet and cartwheel ruff von Doménikos Theotokópoulos im Oktober 2020 bei Christies in New York versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 1.000.000,00 – 1.500.000,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für USD 990.000,00 (€ 850.004,29) den Besitzer. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Doménikos Theotokópoulos erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Saint Dominic In Prayer im Juli 2013 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 9.154.500,00 (€ 10.460.611,84).
