Upper estimate price exceeded by more than 100%
This artwork by David Smith achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in New York in May last year. In the Modern Day Auction auction, the work Untitled (Virgin Island Landscape with Brown Shell) sold for USD 352,800.00 (€ 328,767.12) - well above the upper estimate of USD 150,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by David Smith achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Zig I in May 2016 with an auction result of USD 9,210,000.00 (€ 8,271,216.88).
