A top price for David Smith - as previously expected
The work Zig I by David Smith was sold in the Contemporary Art Evening Auction auction at Sothebys in New York in May 2016. The price achieved of USD 9,210,000.00 (€ 8,271,216.88) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as USD 8,000,000.00 – 12,000,000.00. Even if this result could not surprise positively, Zig I is the most expensive artwork by David Smith that we have observed at auctions so far.

Der dabei erzielte Preis von USD 9.210.000,00 (€ 8.271.216,88) lag im Rahmen der Erwartungen – die Schätzpreisspanne war von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit USD 8.000.000,00 – 12.000.000,00 angegeben worden.
