Auction result well in line with expectations
In December 2013 Sothebys in London held the auction Old Master & British Paintings Day Sale, which included the work Portrait Of James Macpherson (1736-1796) by David Martin. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 10,000.00 – 15,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 11,250.00 (€ 13,532.01) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Other works by David Martin have already achieved higher auction prices, for example, in October 2001 the work Portrait of James, 3rd Earl of Hopetoun (1741-1817), three-quarter-length, in a cream suit, seated at a desk reading; and Portrait of his wife, Lady Elizabeth Carnegie, Countess of Hopetoun (d. 1793), three-quarter-length, in a blue dress, seated wit was auctioned for USD 23,500.00 (€ 26,131.44).
