Sold at the lower estimate price
In September 2013 Christies in London held the auction The Collection of Professor Sir Albert Richardson, P.R.A., which included the work Portrait of Janet Hunter, half-length, in a white dress, seated at a piano by David Martin. The result of GBP 3,000.00 (€ 3,586.04) was exactly at the lower end of the estimate range of GBP 3,000.00 – 5,000.00. Admittedly, works by David Martin have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Portrait of James, 3rd Earl of Hopetoun (1741-1817), three-quarter-length, in a cream suit, seated at a desk reading; and Portrait of his wife, Lady Elizabeth Carnegie, Countess of Hopetoun (d. 1793), three-quarter-length, in a blue dress, seated wit in October 2001 with an auction result of USD 23,500.00 (€ 26,131.44
Zuschlag beim unteren Schätzpreis
Im September 2013 führte Christies in London die Auktion The Collection of Professor Sir Albert Richardson, P.R.A. durch, in der auch die Arbeit Portrait of Janet Hunter, half-length, in a white dress, seated at a piano von David Martin zur Versteigerung kam. Das dabei erzielte Ergebnis von GBP 3.000,00 (€ 3.586,04) entsprach exakt dem unteren Ende der Schätzpreisspanne von GBP 3.000,00 – 5.000,00. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von David Martin auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Portrait of James, 3rd Earl of Hopetoun (1741-1817), three-quarter-length, in a cream suit, seated at a desk reading; and Portrait of his wife, Lady Elizabeth Carnegie, Countess of Hopetoun (d. 1793), three-quarter-length, in a blue dress, seated wit im Oktober 2001 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 23.500,00 (€ 26.131,44).
