Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Portraits Of Emilia Belsches (1730–1807), Half-Length, In A Silver Embroidered Dress With A Book In Her Hands; And Her Sister, Mary Belsches, Half-Length, In A Pink Dress by David Martin was auctioned at Sothebys in London in April 2021. The price achieved of GBP 4,032.00 (€ 4,637.97) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 3,000.00 – 5,000.00. Admittedly, works by David Martin have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Portrait of James, 3rd Earl of Hopetoun (1741-1817), three-quarter-length, in a cream suit, seated at a desk reading; and Portrait of his wife, Lady Elizabeth Carnegie, Countess of Hopetoun (d. 1793), three-quarter-length, in a blue dress, seated wit in October 2001 with an auction result of USD 23,500.00 (€ 26,131.44
