The work Portrait Of General Sir David Leslie (D. 1838), Half-Length, Wearing Uniform, Holding His Sword by David Martin was sold in the Two Great Scottish Collections: Property from the Forbeses of Pitsligo and the Marquesses of Lothian auction at Sothebys in London in March 2017. The result of GBP 5,000.00 (€ 5,859.51) was exactly at the lower end of the estimate range of GBP 5,000.00 – 7,000.00. Admittedly, works by David Martin have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Portrait of James, 3rd Earl of Hopetoun (1741-1817), three-quarter-length, in a cream suit, seated at a desk reading; and Portrait of his wife, Lady Elizabeth Carnegie, Countess of Hopetoun (d. 1793), three-quarter-length, in a blue dress, seated wit in October 2001 with an auction result of USD 23,500.00 (€ 26,131.44
