Auction result well in line with expectations
In June 2021 Sothebys in Hong Kong held the auction Contemporary Curated: Asia | JAY CHOU x SOTHEBY’S | Day Sale, which included the work Toilet Paper by Chen Wenbo. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of HKD 50,000.00 – 100,000.00, the actual price achieved of HKD 52,920.00 (€ 5,748.48) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Chen Wenbo achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Chinesetest No.10 in October 2008 with an auction result of EUR 475,000.00.
Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen
Im Juni 2021 führte Sothebys in Hong Kong die Auktion Contemporary Curated: Asia | JAY CHOU x SOTHEBY’S | Day Sale durch, in der auch die Arbeit Toilet Paper von Chen Wenbo zur Versteigerung kam. Der Schätzpreis für das Kunstwerk wurde von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit einer Spanne von HKD 50.000,00 – 100.000,00 angegeben, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis von HKD 52.920,00 (€ 5.748,48) konnte den unteren Schätzpreis somit knapp übertreffen. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Chen Wenbo erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Chinesetest No.10 im Oktober 2008 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von EUR 475.000,00.
