This artwork by Charles Robinson achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in December 2001. In the BRITISH AND CONTINENTAL DRAWINGS AND WATERCOLOURS AND ILLUST auction, the work A gentleman and a lady on a rearing horse sold for GBP 1,880.00 (€ 3,071.66) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 800.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Charles Robinson - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Illustrations for Aesop's Fables: The fox and the bunch of grapes; and The fox with the cropped tail (both illustrated), which sold at auction in December 2004 for GBP 5,019.00 (€ 7,103.27).
