This artwork by Charles Robinson achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in December 2004. In the British and Continental Watercolours including Original Book auction, the work An illustration for Aesop's Fable's: The lion and the wild ass sold for GBP 2,390.00 (€ 3,382.51) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 1,200.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Charles Robinson - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Illustrations for Aesop's Fables: The fox and the bunch of grapes; and The fox with the cropped tail (both illustrated), which sold at auction in December 2004 for GBP 5,019.00 (€ 7,103.27).
