Artwork auctioned at three times the upper estimate price
The work Simple Simon: "All the water he had got was in his mother's pail." by Charles Robinson was worth GBP 4,780.00 (€ 6,765.02) to a buyer in December 2004. This price was achieved in the auction British and Continental Watercolours including Original Book at Christies in London and exceeded the previously set upper estimate of GBP 1,200.00 many times over. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Charles Robinson; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Illustrations for Aesop's Fables: The fox and the bunch of grapes; and The fox with the cropped tail (both illustrated) sold at auction in December 2004 with the realized price of GBP 5,019.00 (€ 7,103.27).
