In October 2017 Phillips in New York held the auction The Odyssey of Collecting: Photographs from Joy of Giving Something Foundation, which included the work Versant de la colline avec cascade et personnage (Slope of the hill with waterfall and figure) by Charles Nègre. The »bidding war« ended at USD 112,500.00 (€ 96,583.10), 41% above the upper estimate. With this result, Versant de la colline avec cascade et personnage (Slope of the hill with waterfall and figure) is even the most expensive work of art by Charles Nègre that we have observed at auctions so far.
