Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Self-Portrait in Orientalist Costume by Charles Nègre was auctioned at Phillips in New York in April 2017, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 50,000.00 – 70,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 37,500.00 (€ 34,419.46). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Charles Nègre - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Versant de la colline avec cascade et personnage (Slope of the hill with waterfall and figure), which sold at auction in October 2017 for USD 112,500.00 (€ 96,583.10).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit Self-Portrait in Orientalist Costume von Charles Nègre im April 2017 bei Phillips in New York versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 50.000,00 – 70.000,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für USD 37.500,00 (€ 34.419,46) den Besitzer. Für andere Arbeiten von Charles Nègre mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Versant de la colline avec cascade et personnage (Slope of the hill with waterfall and figure) beobachtet, die im Oktober 2017 für USD 112.500,00 (€ 96.583,10) versteigert wurde.
