It achieved a price of GBP 33,750.00 (€ 41,479.84), exceeding the upper end of the estimate range by 69%. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Charles Nègre - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Versant de la colline avec cascade et personnage (Slope of the hill with waterfall and figure), which sold at auction in October 2017 for USD 112,500.00 (€ 96,583.10).

Die Arbeit 'Porte Des Chataîgnes, Midi De La France, Arles', C. 1853 von Charles Nègre kam im Mai 2014 bei Sothebys in London zur Auktion. Sie erzielte dabei einen Preis von GBP 33.750,00 (€ 41.479,84) und übertraf damit das obere Ende der Schätzpreisspanne um 69%. Für andere Arbeiten von Charles Nègre mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Versant de la colline avec cascade et personnage (Slope of the hill with waterfall and figure) beobachtet, die im Oktober 2017 für USD 112.500,00 (€ 96.583,10) versteigert wurde.
