Artwork auctioned at three times the upper estimate price
When the work Portrait Of Germaine Roussel, Later Duchesse D'Elchingen, Princesse De La Moskowa (1873-1930) by Cécile Villeneuve was auctioned at Sothebys in London in May 2020, the result exceeded expectations many times over. The upper estimate was set at a - in retrospect quite modest - GBP 1,800.00 but the actual price achieved was more than three times as high at GBP 6,000.00 (€ 6,660.66). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Cécile Villeneuve - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Vicomtesse Geoffroy de Ruillé, in black dress with white lace underdress, pink rose and foliage at corsage, globular gold bell suspended on a black ribbon choker, pink rose and foliage and black lace veil falling from her upswept blond hair, which sold at auction in May 2004 for GBP 16,730.00 (€ 25,101.16).

Als die Arbeit Portrait Of Germaine Roussel, Later Duchesse D'Elchingen, Princesse De La Moskowa (1873-1930) von Cécile Villeneuve im Mai 2020 bei Sothebys in London versteigert wurde, übertraf das Ergebnis die Erwartungen um ein Vielfaches. Der obere Schätzpreis war mit – rückwirkend betrachtet recht bescheidenen – GBP 1.800,00 angesetzt, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis hingegen war mit GBP 6.000,00 (€ 6.660,66) mehr als dreimal so hoch. Für andere Arbeiten von Cécile Villeneuve mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Vicomtesse Geoffroy de Ruillé, in black dress with white lace underdress, pink rose and foliage at corsage, globular gold bell suspended on a black ribbon choker, pink rose and foliage and black lace veil falling from her upswept blond hair beobachtet, die im Mai 2004 für GBP 16.730,00 (€ 25.101,16) versteigert wurde.
