In September last year Christies in New York held the auction Post-War to Present, which included the work They Were Expendable by Billy Al Bengston. The »bidding war« ended at USD 37,800.00 (€ 38,638.45), 26% above the upper estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Billy Al Bengston achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Lester, 1961 in February 2020 with an auction result of USD 548,075.00 (€ 497,120.18).

Im September letzten Jahres führte Christies in New York die Auktion Post-War to Present durch, in der auch die Arbeit They Were Expendable von Billy Al Bengston zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von USD 37.800,00 (€ 38.638,45) und damit 26% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Billy Al Bengston erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Lester, 1961 im Februar 2020 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 548.075,00 (€ 497.120,18).
