Upper estimated price slightly exceeded

In May this year Christies in New York held the auction A Century of Art: The Gerald Fineberg Collection Part II, which included the work Alfalfa by Billy Al Bengston. Here, the upper estimate of USD 200,000.00 was slightly exceeded - the artwork found a new owner for USD 201,600.00 (€ 189,224.70). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Billy Al Bengston - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Lester, 1961, which sold at auction in February 2020 for USD 548,075.00 (€ 497,120.18).

Oberer Schätzpreis leicht übertroffen

Im Mai diesen Jahres führte Christies in New York die Auktion A Century of Art: The Gerald Fineberg Collection Part II durch, in der auch die Arbeit Alfalfa von Billy Al Bengston zur Versteigerung kam. Dabei wurde der obere Schätzpreis von USD 200.000,00 leicht übertroffen – das Kunstwerk fand für USD 201.600,00 (€ 189.224,70) einen neuen Besitzer. Für andere Arbeiten von Billy Al Bengston mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Lester, 1961 beobachtet, die im Februar 2020 für USD 548.075,00 (€ 497.120,18) versteigert wurde.
